The U.S. President Joe Biden got his coaching fastball today.
Joining former President Bill Clinton at the Global Irish Economic Forum in Dublin, the vice president came onstage to the cool music of Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man.”
“How I’ve been praying,” Biden said, as the crowd cheered. “I wanted to come down and support the man.”
From the first 100 seconds of the clip, it’s clear the vice president was excited to sit next to the one of the nation’s most beloved political figures and people come up to shake his hand in the halls, as well as on stage, throughout the event. It’s clear that he’s excited to return the favor to the leader of the free world.
Also cheering for Biden during the speech was former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
A video of a guy handing Biden a bottle of whiskey during the event has circulated on social media. In the video, Biden can be seen standing with his eyes closed for over two minutes. He smiles once, when the guy pulls out the bottle. It’s likely that the guy was a bartender or bartender staffer, given Biden’s constantly smiling and waving with his fingers around his neck as if he’s about to fall into the drink.
Biden looks almost certainly to be having some kind of an aneurysm during the 15-minute tape, but is still holding on.
What is funny about the clip, is the fact that Biden refuses to acknowledge his inner pain in a predictable way. Biden waves his arms around as though he’s just impressed someone in a hospital wing. Then, he collapses into his chair. He doesn’t even raise his hands, implying that he wants to be able to see who he’s shaking hands with. He’s trying his best to be taken serious.
“I didn’t forget anything I wanted to tell you,” Biden told the crowd, as he eventually sat down.
Following the initial clip, we now have a longer video that shows the former vice president delivering his entire speech. It’s clear that he was excited to share his words of wisdom and his moment with someone who truly understands what it takes to achieve greatness, someone who his very blood and body is literally pure blood: the President of the United States of America.
