The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Jen Shahidi has been accused of making a fake porn site and blackmailing Playboy in an attempt to keep her family in reality TV fame.
The 25-year-old has been arrested on five felony counts and two misdemeanour counts including robbery, extortion, burglary, identity theft and possessing with intent to distribute child pornography, according to Radar Online.
TMZ has reported that Shahidi, “jailed and charged with a lengthy list of crimes including criminal use of a communication facility, burglary, robbery, kidnapping, identity theft, possession of child pornography and manufacturing child pornography”.
Two criminal complaints filed in a Los Angeles court allege that she “took control of a website on July 26 called girlsmodels.net” and “told the website administrator that the website had been hacked”.
The website was to be used to send threatening messages to people involved in Shahidi’s family’s reality show to keep her family on TV.
The Blast have reported that one of the police complaints reads that she “extorted Playboy via his PlatinumTech Distributing business, demanding over $300,000 and threatening to post nude photos of Ms. Shahidi on the website.”
She allegedly demanded $70,000 (£54,000) for a subscription fee and demand another $500,000 (£418,000) to save the magazine, as well as instructions on how to sign up to the site. Playboy refused to release this information.
In a statement to Radar Online, Shahidi, “is unequivocally innocent of these charges”. She continued: “I have been defending myself and everyone involved for months and look forward to my day in court and my being exonerated.”
Andy Cohen, host of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, has been trying to keep fans informed about the scandal. He sent a message to his Instagram followers, “my dear and favourite daughter is Jen Shahidi. Like any parent, I hold her to a higher standard and I’m hoping this story is not true… You never know in this world. I know in my heart I will remain “a kid at heart” (a feeling I shared with many kids and families on this show.)”.
He continued: “I pray this is all bullshit. I’ve been working with Jen to help her when and if she wanted to recover from an addiction that took her life and took away from her one precious daughter. She’s a fighter and a survivor.”
